This is a bit far away from home, but a call for assistance has been requested to help with this issue.
It seems that Rochester geese which have come to be year around residents due to their start as captive geese, or who have been injured and can no longer fly, are being kicked out. The method the city of Rochester plans on using is to remove feeding bins traditionally used to supply Silver Lake visitors with corn to feed to the geese. The city is putting out information stating that feeding geese keeps geese from migrating, but the consequences of taking away the only winter source of food for the geese could be devistating.
Please read the excellent history of the Rochester geese to learn more about this situation. Follow the link to Love Canada Geese page for Silver Lake. At the bottom of the linked page you will find out who you can contact to voice your concern.
